IMC 2016 INDUSTRY ART DIRECTORS, AGENTS and GALLERIES
Tamara Shannon of Shannon Associates will be joining the IMC to review work and answer industry question about artists agents and agency representation. Having a great agent can be a very successful path forward for many artists- and one of the reasons we are so happy that Tamara will be with us this year to look at work.
Over the last 25 years Shannon Associates has been a highly respected agency among artist and Art directors.
Their clients include Nike, HBO, Starbucks, Coca-Cola, The New York Yankees, Kraft Foods, Disney, Hershey's, DC Comics, Universal Studios, DreamWorks Studios, Penguin Publishing, Random House Publishing, Simon & Schuster, American Express, The Washington Post, National Geographic, The Wall Street Journal, The National Football League, The National Baseball League, National Basketball Association, BMW, Time Magazine, Wired, The Economist, Sci-Fi Channel, Hasbro, Dell Computers, NASA, Sony, Lucas Films, Givanchy, Ralph Lauren, AT&T, American Girl, Timex, Hallmark, Busch Gardens, Burton Snowboards, Oakley, LL Bean, Burger King, McDonald's, Kellogg's, Legos Group, Readers Digest, The LPGA, The US Open, The History Channel, A & E, Lifetime, Sports Illustrated, ESPN, Wrangler Jeans, Honda, Zondervan Publishing, Tommy Hilfiger, Tylenol, Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, Southwest Airlines, Marvel Comics, Time-Warner, Nintendo, and more...
We are very proud to welcome gallerist Carol Corey of Danese/Corey to join the IMC 2016 as a special guest. Carol will do an open Q&A in Pruyne Hall, look at work and talk one on one with the students in the Gallery focus group.
Danese opened in New York in 1997 with concurrent exhibitions – Dan Flavin’s iconic sculptures ‘Monuments’ to V. Tatlin, and rare drawings by Kazimir Malevich. Since then, the gallery has built a successful international reputation with a focus on the representation of contemporary artists and estates.
From the works of Elizabeth King and Deborah Butterfield to Roz Chast, Gabrielle Bakker and Simone Bianchi, Danese/Corey brings a unique perspective to the gallery world.
In 2013, the gallery relocated from 24th Street to a large ground floor space at 511 West 22nd Street, at which time they became DANESE/COREY when Carol Corey was named partner.
It is also our pleasure to welcom Peter Frank to THE IMC this year! Peter Frank is an art critic for the Huffington Post and Associate Editor for Fabrik magazine, and former critic for Angeleno magazine and the L. A. Weekly. He has served as editor for THEmagazine Los Angeles and Visions Art Quarterly, as well as Senior Curator at the Riverside Art Museum. Frank studied art history at Columbia University in his native New York, where he wrote for The Village Voice and the SoHo Weekly News. He has curated exhibitions, lectured and taught throughout the world.
After 11 years designing and art directing book covers, Lauren Panepinto has worked in every publishing genre and collaborated with artists of all disciplines. As the Creative Director of Orbit Books and Yen Press for the past five years, she has been trying to merge the worlds of genre and commercial publishing and figure out what SFF publishing looks like in the present world of mainstream "geek" media. Recently she also became the Creative Director of a new commercial fiction imprint, called Redhook.
The IMC is so happy to have Lauren back as a guest for portfolio reviews for Groups 1 and 2!
Doug Alexander Gregory has been a professional illustrator, concept artist, and comic artist for over twenty-two years, working for several major publishing and entertainment companies. His client list includes Microsoft, Sony, Sci-Fi Chanel, Marvel Comics, DC Comics, Warner Brothers, Lucas Film, Wizards of the Coast, and Hasbro.
Since 2010, Doug has worked at Blizzard Entertainment, providing art direction or overseeing overall production for several of the company’s critically acclaimed ancillary products, including Diablo III: Book of Tyrael and Blizzard’s recent children’s book, Snow Fight. Most recently, he served as director on four episodes of the Lords of War animated series, which prefaced the Warlords of Draenorexpansion for World of Warcraft.
Doug will be joining us via a virtual classroom at the end of THE IMC week to critique the work of Group 1 as an artist and art director.
Marc Scheff and Lauren Panepinto started EDO with a new model for collecting original small works by new and emerging artists and illustrators.
EDO has made it possible for people who love art and want to collect original pieces to start collecting for the first time. The benefits for the artists have been present in a thriving platform for experimentation for small works and the sale of the those pieces every month.
We are very happy that EDO will be available for portfolio review for people in group 2 and three working in traditional media.
